c. 2000–1500 BCE

The Amorites were an ancient Semitic-speaking people from Syria who also occupied large parts of southern Mesopotamia from the 2100BCE to 1601 BCE. The term Amorites is used in the Bible to refer to certain highland mountaineers who inhabited the land of Canaan, described in Genesis 10:16 as descendants of Canaan, the son of Ham.
